Have you heard of St. Patrick’s Day? It is a celebration in Ireland as a tribute to Saint Patrick, the patron saint of the country. He was born in England and was a Christian Priest, until the day he became a Bishop. As a teenager, St. Patrick’s was enslaved and taken to Ireland. After about six years serving as a slave, he managed to escape and years later returned to the country as a missionary. During this period, he played a very important role in the history of the church, preaching Christianity.
On March 17, the anniversary of the saint’s death, people dress and paint themselves green, taste typical Irish cuisine and drink beer (green, of course!). In Ireland the party lasts for five days and its high point is a parade on March 17th. St. Patrick’s Day has gained high recognition in Irish communities around the world and is now celebrated in several countries.
Keeping with the tradition of celebrating St. Patrick’s day at Colegio Emilie, last March 17th was a different and fun “green day” at Middle School! Each class approached the theme in a different way, but everyone was invited to participate in the classes wearing a green outfit or accessory.

Você já ouviu falar do St. Patrick’s Day, ou dia de São Patrício? É uma festa celebrada na Irlanda como uma homenagem a São Patrício ou St. Patrick, o padroeiro do país. Ele nasceu na Inglaterra e foi um sacerdote cristão, até o dia em que se tornou Bispo. Quando adolescente St. Patrick foi escravizado e levado para a Irlanda, após cerca de seis anos servindo como escravo, conseguiu escapar e anos mais tarde retornou para o país como missionário. Durante esse período desempenhou um papel muito importante na história da igreja, pregando o cristianismo.
No dia 17 de março, aniversário da morte do santo, as pessoas se vestem e se pintam de verde, degustam a típica culinária irlandesa e bebem cerveja (verde, é claro!) Na Irlanda a festa dura cinco dias e o seu ponto alto é um desfile no dia 17 de março. O St. Patrick’s Day ganhou tanta força nas comunidades irlandesas mundo afora e passou a ser celebrado em diversos países.
Mantendo a tradição de celebrar St Patrick’s Day no Colégio Emilie, o último 17 de março foi um “dia verde” diferente e divertido no Middle School! Cada turma abordou o tema de uma forma diferente, mas todos foram convidados a participar das aulas vestindo uma roupa ou um acessório verde.
