In order to recall the sounds previously studied in Jolly Phonics, our Grade 1 students were invited to join in a sensorial and fun experience in the sandbox, in which they were asked to write down short words tracing the letters with their pointing finger.
Sandwriting, besides being a fun activity, has also a number of learning benefits. Such practice is particularly powerful for the awareness of the sense of textures and contributes to hand-eye coordination skills, allowing children to receive kinaesthetic feedback, a key component of motor control for legible handwriting in the future.
They loved to feel the sand in their hands. Sensorial activities such as this one help students to develop both language and motor skills, besides fostering social interactions and encouraging experimentation, as they can freely trace the letters, touching the sand and creating words with freedom.
Developing skills in letter formation, building on thinking and creativity skills, as well as sensory awareness is just some of the learning that can be achieved through sandwriting play. And so, our children are improving their writing skills through the language of play!
Descobrindo a escrita na areia
Para relembrar os fonemas previamente estudados no Jolly Phonics, nossos alunos do Grade 1 foram convidados a participar de uma experiência sensorial e divertida no tanque de areia, na qual foram solicitados a escrever palavras curtas traçando as letras com o dedo indicador.
Escrever na areia, além de divertido, também traz vários benefícios para o aprendizado. Tal prática é particularmente potente para a percepção de sensações de diferentes texturas e contribui para a coordenação visomotora, permitindo que as crianças recebam um retorno cinestésico, um componente-chave do controle motor para uma caligrafia legível no futuro.
Elas adoraram sentir a areia em suas mãos. Atividades sensoriais como esta ajudam os estudantes a desenvolver habilidades linguísticas e motoras, além de promover interações sociais e estimular a experimentação, pois eles podem traçar livremente as letras, tocar a areia e criar palavras com liberdade.
Desenvolver habilidades na formação de letras, habilidades de pensamento e criatividade, bem como a consciência sensorial são apenas alguns dos aprendizados que podem ser alcançados ao brincar de escrever na areia. E assim, nossas crianças vêm aprimorando suas habilidades de escrita por meio da linguagem do brincar!
