Grade 2 students enjoyed a warm and memorable meeting with author Donaldo Buchweitz, celebrating his book Tulu: In Search of a Place to Live. The children welcomed him with a cheerful performance of the book’s song and shared their imaginative alternative endings. Creating their own ending for the story proved to be an excellent way to foster creative writing and illustrations/visualizations, as well as orality, since the children’s voices were recorded while narrating their ideas.
Mr. Buchweitz delighted everyone with poems he had written just for the occasion! The visit continued with curious questions the children had prepared and a lively autograph session, where they proudly held their signed books. Before leaving, Mr. Buchweitz toured the school, including the library where many of his books are available in both English and Portuguese. The children loved the encounter, highlighting “I liked the poems the author made”, and suggesting, “Meet the illustrator too next time!”. It was a joyful celebration of stories, creativity, and the magic of reading.

Os alunos do Grade 2 tiveram um encontro caloroso e memorável com o autor Donaldo Buchweitz, celebrando seu livro Tulu: In Search of a Place to Live. As crianças o receberam com uma alegre apresentação das músicas do livro e compartilharam seus criativos finais alternativos. Criar o próprio final para a história foi uma experiência especial, que estimulou a escrita criativa e a produção de ilustrações, além de valorizar a oralidade, já que as vozes das crianças foram gravadas enquanto compartilhavam suas ideias.
O Sr. Buchweitz encantou a todos com poemas que escreveu especialmente para a ocasião! A visita continuou com perguntas curiosas que as crianças haviam preparado e uma animada sessão de autógrafos, na qual elas se orgulhavam de segurar seus livros assinados. Antes de partir, o Sr. Buchweitz fez um tour pela escola, incluindo a biblioteca, onde muitos de seus livros estão disponíveis em inglês e português. As crianças adoraram o encontro, destacando: “Gostei dos poemas que o autor escreveu” e sugerindo: “Conhecer o ilustrador também na próxima vez!”. Foi uma celebração alegre de histórias, criatividade e da magia da leitura.
