Little scientists in action!
Scientists observe, ask questions, raise hypothesis, conduct experiments, draw conclusions and report results… this is what our little grade 2 scientists are doing: using the scientific method to explore the world around them.
The “grass head” experiment is an opportunity for kids to investigate and observe how seeds germinate and what plants need to grow.
The children loved to create a “funny face” for their plant pot, to share their experience with their friends and teachers, and also broaden their knowledge about plants, its needs and characteristics.
Undoubtedly it is an enriching hands-on experiment in which second graders develop a certain degree of autonomy since it is expected that they take care of their own plants (to place the pot by the window so it receives enough sunlight, water the plant regularly etc.), what makes them responsible for its growth process.
In learning situations like this, students can put into practice what was learned, relating this knowledge to daily life experiences, and thus advance in their learning process.
Experimento “grass head” (cabeça de grama)
Pequenos cientistas em ação!
Os cientistas observam, fazem perguntas, levantam hipóteses, realizam experiências, tiram conclusões e relatam resultados… é isto que os nossos pequenos cientistas do grade 2 estão fazendo: usam o método científico para explorar o mundo à sua volta.
O experimento “grass head” é uma oportunidade para as crianças investigarem e observarem como as sementes germinam e o que as plantas precisam para crescer.
As crianças adoraram criar uma “cara engraçada” para o seu vaso de plantas, partilhar a sua experiência com amigos e professores e também alargar os seus conhecimentos sobre plantas, suas necessidades e características.
Trata-se, sem dúvida, de uma experiência prática enriquecedora em que os alunos do grade 2 desenvolvem um certo grau de autonomia, uma vez que se espera que eles cuidem das suas próprias plantas (colocar o vaso junto à janela para que receba luz solar suficiente, regá-la regularmente etc.), o que os torna responsáveis pelo seu processo de crescimento.
Com situações de aprendizagens como essa, eles podem colocar em prática aquilo que foi aprendido, relacionando tais conhecimentos com situações que fazem parte de seu cotidiano e, assim, avançar em seu processo de aprendizagem.
